Zona designed the complete HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems for both the private living suites and shared community spaces for Bugen Hall, the first on-campus student housing facility at Cochise College. Working in Revit 2022, Zona supported the project from schematic design through construction administration, delivering coordinated building systems that create a safe, comfortable, and energy-efficient living environment for students.
The new two-story, 7,500-square-foot residence hall provides 45 beds within 23 student suites, each featuring private bedrooms and shared living spaces, kitchens, bathrooms, and showers. The facility also includes a residence director's apartment and office, study spaces, student lounges, laundry facilities, and collaborative common areas designed to foster community, academic success, and student engagement. The flexible housing layout accommodates students participating in programs of varying lengths, providing a welcoming residential experience that supports the College's educational mission.
The HVAC adapted into a heat recovery VRV system, a more energy efficient alternative. The integrated building systems were carefully coordinated to maximize occupant comfort, long-term reliability, and ease of maintenance while supporting the unique operational needs of a modern student housing facility.
By combining functional living spaces with high-performance building systems, Bugen Hall provides students with a comfortable and supportive environment where they can live, study, and connect with their peers. The project reflects Zona's commitment to designing higher education facilities that enhance the student experience while providing durable, efficient, and maintainable engineering solutions.
